This book is just not for me at all!!
I can't take it anymore!! I feel like this book is wasting my time. I can't seem get into it because I can't stand the main character Taylor. I couldn't connect with her at all. She is such a rude bitch for no reason. How can you be mean and hate someone you just met?!? Just Psycho!!! I don't understand how she has any friends with her attitude and snarky comments. I couldn't do it!!!.

The first time I met Hunter Zaccadelli, I punched him in the face. Granted, he completely and totally deserved it. He also asked for it, in so many ways.
I decided right then and there that when I saw what precipitated the punch in the face would be the thing that determined if I kept reading.
Taylor and 2 friends are moving into their dorm - which is coed. They're waiting on their fourth roommate, who is being assigned by housing. Hunter shows up. A guy.
Taylor, in her strong, bitchy ways, immediately goes on the defensive; telling Hunter he can't live there. She immediately categorized him as a 'douche' - all because he's good looking, has a tattoo, flirts, and is cocky.
I get she's uncomfortable, but she doesn't have to take it all out on him. Throwing her phone when she can't get ahold of housing. Throwing a fit in general.
Hunter, despite Taylor's insane 'welcome', seems determined to continue to be nice, try to start conversations, and flirty - shamelessly. He offers to buy them lunch even. Obviously he's attracted to bratty women.
Now, for the punch to the face. He invades her space. Purposefully, flirting, crowding her. She, in response, immediately punches him in the face and knees him in the groin.
I'm guessing there's some sort of assault in her past, and I get the instinct, but you can't go around hitting people just because they get in your space. Telling him to back off would be a good first option.
She then storms out of the apartment.
I was surprised no one chase after me, but Darah and Renee [her friends/roommates] knew about my freak outs. They knew to leave me alone and give me my space. It hadn't been the first time they'd seen me like that.
Healthy. You regularly freak out and hit people and no one thinks this is a problem? Just let her walk it off. This all just screams abusive personality to me. If it's not her way, then she's liable to freak out - and you should just get out of her path.
She calls her sister to talk it through, tells her that she punched Hunter.
"Aw, Kid, why did you do that?""He cornered me, what was I supposed to do?" My hand was red and starting to turn a lovely purple shade.
"You could have told him to back off. That would have been the logical thing to do."
"You know I'm not a logical person."
O-Kay then.
"Don't you think you should talk to someone again?""Because that worked so well before. No thank you."
It didn't work that one time, so we will never, ever again seek help for our issues. I'm done.
My friend Sarah managed to finish this book - so here are some quotes that she shared from further in...I'm so glad I quit this because these quotes put me straight into rage-territory.

Taylor: I just flat out didn't like her. In fact, I actively disliked her. There is supposedly some big, tragic secret to her past that makes her have panic attacks and gives her a suspicious, angry outlook on life. I guess it also gives her the right to objectify all men and treat them like shit for absolutely no reason. And yet somehow, she has all of these girlfriends that support her and love her, not only allowing her to be a horrible person, but backing her up when she is. Problem here is, had I found out the 'secret tragedy' earlier on in the book, I may have been able to empathize with her even if I didn't agree with her actions. Being a woman myself, I find it easy to put myself into another woman's shoes while trying to relate to a character. As it was, I formed my opinion of her too solidly for the big revelation to have much effect at changing my mind.
This girl, within the first few pages, punches her new roommate in the face and kicks him in the junk for playfully coming on to her. She continually makes mountains out of molehills, and I kept getting the feeling that the author was trying desperately to paint Hunter in a bad light without making the reader actually dislike him. Every action of his was construed by Taylor to be invasive or threatening, when in reality he's being playful or sexy. But for me, I was almost always on his side. Hunter's actually a really nice guy! I just kept wondering what the hell he was doing fixating on the bitchy girl. I don't think she gave him a single reason to become so obsessed with her, unless he's a masochist.
The juvenile attitudes and actions just kept snowballing until I started rolling my eyes at most of the antics that were probably meant to be quirky and sweet. Slight scene spoiler here: They go to a fancy French restaurant where Hunter order a peanut butter and jelly sandwich, because he's "never been there before, and he knows PB and J will be good." I think if I had already felt an attachment to this couple, I would have found this kind of cute but alas, I just rolled my eyes and snorted to myself. Continuing during the same restaurant scene, Taylor eats a bite of dessert, closes her eyes, and moans…and silly old her, just can't understand why Hunter is looking at her funny. Golly gee whiz! Another eye roll. What an overused, airheaded seductress move.
I felt like this book tried to straddle the line between adult and young adult and just didn't fit into either category. At times, it was as if I was being pushed into believing that nineteen year old Taylor and twenty year old Hunter were old enough to be adults when it's pretty obvious that they both have major psychological issues to work out. The sex was fairly fade to black aside from a few "he touched me there and OH!" The attitudes of the main characters and their unrealistic reactions, especially Taylor's, just turned me off, over and over again. I think the author has a very young voice, and it showed through in how she portrayed relationships and conversations. Very immature most of the time.
I must say, though, that after Taylor's big secret is out, she does your basic one eighty and is nearly normal. Almost like she's a completely different character. It's a little confusing. The way things work out is so quick and painless, I realize it's just what I expect from a young adult novel. Because when you're nineteen, things just happen like that.
If I hadn't disliked Taylor so much (I did get a bit ranty there, huh?), I would have liked this book so much more, and could have taken it for the fun, young adult novel that it is. As it was, I was so completely floored by her bratty, self absorbed, over dramatized behavior for the first three quarters of the book, all I could manage to do was feel bad for Hunter. What guy in his right mind would not only want that kind of girl, but chase her? She beats the crap out of him twice! If the roles had been reversed and Hunter had just had a little panic attack and hit on Taylor during his freak out time, this would be the perfect book to get the reading world in an uproar. As is, the double standard was appalling, and I just couldn't get over it.
I'm in no way trying to lay judgment on people with mental issues. But I never have, nor ever will, think that things that happen to you should dictate the way you treat others to the extent that it is portrayed in this book. In other words, don't use your crappy childhood to treat people like shit. Abuse is abuse is abuse. And I'm probably going on about this too much. After all, it is just a book.

First let me say that this book is not a Beautiful Disaster love child. Yes, Hunter's physical description is rather Travisy, there's a heated bet on the table and a V-card to be played, but these are just similar concepts. The plot is totally unique!
The things that I loved about this book just might be the very things that you hate! These characters had issues. Their issues violated each other and had baby issues! You couldn't turn around without bumping into an issue!! The characters were nuts and I loved it!!! The issues gave birth to drama and it was everywhere. Drama, drama, drama. Crazy, crazy, crazy! Taylor will drive you insane!!
Sexual tension plus drama equals my favorite cocktail, but I know it's not for everybody.
There were also some great one-liners in this book, funny...sexy! The dialogue was edible!
"Just wrap it before you tap it, Kid."
"But I'll save them and sing them to you at a later time when I'm allowed assery again."
"Cranberry juice is in the fridge. Go see your Gyno. That's all you have to do. I'm just looking out got your vaginal welfare."

Despite my book lovin, I wasn't quite sure how to rate it! Why?...The ending totally fell flat. It was a nice little HEA, but with so much drama, angst and build up, the ending needed to be huge!!! The fuse was lit from page one, but it never exploded! I wanted a BOOM! The book gave me so much, but I still can't help but be a little disappointed with how it ended.
Okay, so this book wasn't perfect, but it was a tension filled drama with characters that will piss you off, but at the same time cause you to feel, to want, to need! It will hook you until the very, very end! READ ON!

I loved when Hunter played his guitar to Taylor and wrote songs about her. And i adored their texting. It was so cute!
HE is so cute and adorable, and frustrating, and unbelievable and just so 'ahh'.

I loved Taylor too! she had a very funny and bad attitude i adored. It's hilarious since she was the main reason some of the readers didn't like the book.
They said, and i quote 'she was rude, bitchy, selfish and horrible'.
Yada, Yada, Yada.
Errrmm, excuse me people but i think you got something wrong.
She ain't 'bitchy', 'selfish' and 'rude' (OK, maybe she is) but all these things add up to a kickass protagonist.
Especially when she uses those personalities against guys (LOL).
Poor Hunter, haha.
Anyways, what the heck did you expect from a 19 year old girl with anger issues, huh?
If you want a protagonist that's all honey and flowers, lets people walk on her, and hangs on a guy's arm then run away from this book. You will most likely end up hating it.

My Favourite Mistake is kinda boring. I mean Taylor and hunter don't even kiss until, like, 60% through the book.
So before that nothing really happens except them fighting their attraction for one another and each other.
Also trying to find the other person's secrets ( BTW - I so did not approve of *tiny spoiler alert* Taylor searching through Hunters things and listening on to his private conversations).

As well as, i expected something exciting to happen at the of the book.
Something action packed maybe. But to my surprise and disappointment it was just dull.
In fact, i think it was one of the most dullest parts of the whole book.

Above is the first line of the book. It's pretty telling, isn't it? As soon as Taylor met Hunter, you knew sparks were just going to fly between the two and did they ever. The banter between the two was non-stop for at least the first 42% of the book. God, the tension build up was, at times, excruciating. I was ready to burst if nothing happened between the two. I blamed Taylor, but part of me feels guilty for doing so.
One event in the past has changed Taylor. She was never the same. This one traumatic event has prevented her from forming relationships, especially with men. She was known as an ice queen in high school. This is one tough woman and doesn't take shit from anyone, especially from someone like Hunter Zaccadelli.
"You are the cockiest, douchebaggy asshat I've ever met, and I can't wait to get rid of you."
When Hunter shows up at her doorstep, claiming he's her new roommate, Taylor is not happy. It didn't matter that her other two roommates were women, having the third be a man, especially as appealing as Hunter, was out of the question. To make things worse, there's only two bedrooms and since her other roommates were already bunking with each other in the one, guess who will be sharing her bedroom with? Ugh! I'm so jealous of Taylor for having such luck. I mean come on!! She'll be sharing a room with Hunter. **SIGH** It's every girl's dream, except for Taylor's. She wants nothing more than to get rid of him, but he's not going anywhere.
Before he could move closer, I pulled back and slammed my fist into his jaw and my knee into his groin. He doubled over, clutching his face and his balls.
It's safe to say, Hunter has never met a girl like Taylor. She pushes his buttons and calls him on all his shit. There was no way in hell he was going to leave, not until he finds out more about her. However, he does strike a deal with her. "I am what I am. If you don't like it, there's a simple way out of it. You have three options. Hate me, love me, do me. Pick your poison" Since "doing him" was out of the question, Taylor must outright convince him that she either loves him or hates him. Otherwise, he's not going to leave. However, no matter how she verbally declares her hatred, it's not enough to convince him. Hunter is here to stay.
"Goodnight, Hunter."
"Love me?"
"Nope."
"Hate me?"
"More than the DMV."
"Ohhh, burn."
I loved the banter between the two. I love their chemistry. Most of all, I love Hunter. Let me count the ways:
1.) I love how Hunter nicknamed her "Missy."
2.) I love the fact that he sleeps naked.
3.) I love all his five tattoos.
4.) I love how he rubs a certain tattoo three times when he gets nervous.
5.) I love all his neurotic OCD tendencies (Trust me. I know exactly how that feels).
6.) I love that that he plays guitar, sings and even writes silly songs.
7.) I love the fact that he can cook a gourmet meal.
8.) I love the fact that he believes in luck and how superstitious he can get.
9.) I love that he never gives up on her and was there for her when she needed him.
I'm sure if I sit here long enough, I can think of more, but you get the picture. I really liked this story. Like I said before, the only drawback is that it took them FOR-EV-ER to get together and I wish there was a little more background on why Hunter was so superstitious. I never caught that reason. But anyway, it doesn't really matter. What matters is that Hunter sleeps naked. Wait. What? Whoops, did I just say that again? **Blushes** Huh. I guess I did. My mistake. lol

This book was not what I expected. The premise of My Favorite Mistake promises a refreshing New Adult contemporary romance, a read that I found myself anticipating. Sadly, I couldn't even make myself finish reading the whole thing. There are a number of emotions associated with this read for me: anger, disappointment, but ultimately, exhaustion, just to name a few.
I got nothing out of reading this, and while I could very well rage about the poor characterization, lack of plot, and endless clichés present in this book, I am done wasting any more of my energy here. In fact, it is most definitely not my favorite mistake. I'll give you the dirty, but my anger is spent. Kind of.

The Bad.
Have you ever disliked a character so much that a whole book seems to be ruined just because of him/her? If so then you might know how I feel, and maybe where I'm coming from, when I say that Taylor - the female protagonist - completely ruined this book for me. She is just such an unlikable character! For starters, she spends the majority of the book's first quarter sulking around, whining that she ended up with Hunter as a roommate even though the living space at their college IS coed. She and two other rommates, Darah and Renee needed a fourth person and put up a vacancy. Hunter applied, got the spot through the officiates at housing, and one painfully long story short, Taylor flips the shiz out.
She can't handle that the guy flirts with her, even though he flirted with both Darah and Renee
It is my experience that in life, there are many people who never hear the truth, no cold hard facts plain and simple, from anyone, and Taylor struck me as being of this variety. Mainly because she has a problem, she lashes out when things don't go her way, and instead of people telling her to get her act together, they make stupid freaking allowances.
Sorry, Mary, it seems like everybody is ill here.
You get to know pretty quickly that she hates a lot of things: hates that Hunter flirts with her, she hates that he ended up in their coed dorm, and basically hates that he's a guy. Due to an incident in the past, Taylor is played off as this damaged girl with "issues" and her less than stellar past is supposed to justify this girl's constant griping.
Who wouldn't hate!? She complains about everything.
A lot of the time it was as though excuses were ALWAYS being made for Taylor. Upon their first meeting, she manages to punch Hunter in the face, a true display of totally volatile and over-the-top behaviour. Yet, we are to accept this as part of her nature: oh nuh uh, Taylor doesn't put up with no shit, naw girl. In reality, we are to believe that it is all Hunter's fault that she felt threatened. Taylor was protecting herself. The only problem in this brilliant theory? Even a donkey missing half its brain could put together that there wasn't any real danger to be had from Hunter. If he was going to try something, it would have been during their first night or week living together. I mean why wait, right?
He is incredibly built and I am expected to believe that if indeed he was a rapist he would not have jumped at the chance to pounce on Taylor, because? There's logic missing in that, Cameron. Yes, Hunter is an ass at times, making sexual references and flirting immediately with near-strangers does rank up on the douche scale of existence, but he isn't a bad guy. While his actions weren't exactly shining examples of gentlemanly conduct, Taylor had absolutely no right hitting him.
He takes it well, laughs the incident off, but it did made me sick how double standard it all was. Their situation, if reversed, would have left Hunter riding in the back of a secure van/car headed to the nearest police station for laying hands on Taylor. The girl wouldn't have even blinked before calling the cops, but somehow it is justifiable that she takes out her aggression on him, and he's supposed to be okay with it? She throws tantrums and explodes like an irresponsible child, but everyone just tip-toes around her, giving her space because otherwise that bitch will find you, and then it'll all go to hell.
*sigh* He never saw it coming.*
I refuse to make any excuses for her, and by 35% into the book I just wanted out. You should know now that I most definitely did not finish this book
By the time I finally gave up, I just couldn't force myself to read any more. I should have needed to read the story, wanted to engage with characters because good books are supposed to draw you in. Well, My Favorite Mistake did the exact opposite and pushed me far away. I can see where Cameron was going with the storyline: damaged girl meets damaged boy, she can't trust/let people in
Final Thoughts
No. Just no. My Favorite Mistake lacks in several areas, the want most apparent in its poor characterization and weak story structure. Furthermore, I get that this is a college based story, New Adult means a higher level of sensuality and cussing of some sort, but would it kill these characters to actually speak intelligently? For once, without the meaningless cursing? The way they go about spouting profanities every second word really made me cringe. I respect an individual's right to speech, heck cursing is fun sometimes, but there is a problem when all the characters talk like they might have been recently displaced from the great Seven Seas. I especially hated God's name and "Jesus" being flung around. I've read New Adult, and loved it before, but never was the language so deplorable.
So there you have it. This book has me talking like my grandmother,

But Seriously. I enjoyed reading My favorite Mistake. I loved their banters. I felt giddy every now and then. Even though Hunter and Taylor have their own personal issues they really are perfect with each other. Who wouldn't love Hunter? A guy who can almost do everything perfectly. Knows how to cook, plays guitar to his special someone, writing silly songs about her, a guy that won't give up on her no matter what happens and most specially his hot body, tattoos all over the place.
This book is somewhat similar to Beautiful disaster and I would definitely recommend this to anyone who loved that book.

I do this for humor as much as critique, so hopefully this turns out just as well as the last poetic review I wrote on Cara Cormack's "Losing It". That review worked probably more considering they were theater students and the nature of the story. My excuse here? Well, Hunter, the leading love interest, is a guitar player, so there are some musical elements here - mostly for silliness and just to showcase talents, but it's enough to try to attempt making a song out of it. If I have any additional thoughts, I'll just put them below the prose. I hope you enjoy this as much as I did penning it, though as far as the work goes, I didn't care for it, and hopefully this review is an illustration of why.

*She literally does this not long after meeting him when he corners her.
**Hunter sleeps in the buff and even throws her out of her own room at one point when he gets mad. She starts crying, drives off to a friend's house and basically he has to convince her to return. Ugh.
*** I could probably write a book about how Hunter annoys Taylor, but Taylor's equally abrasive, which makes the two of them really hard to sympathize/emphasize with.
**** She actually calls him bipolar many, many times. And makes mention of how messed up she is in her internal voice.

Hunter and Taylor are more alike than they could ever imagine, they both have pasts that haunts them, they both don't believe in Happily Ever After and it pisses them off that they can't stay away from each other
"I don't like you. I don't like how your hair smells, and how I can't stop thinking about waking up and seeing your face. I hate how my bed felt empty when you left. I don't like how good you were with my family, especially Harper, and how I wanted to see you with them again, but not just as a guest. As a member. You're right. I don't like you at all."
Taylor finds herself smiling more and not so angry all thanks to Hunter. But they both have secrets that they keep
"I know we're both screwed up, but even screwed up people should be able to be happy."
Taylor's past comes back and the somewhat happy world comes crashing down, they have no choice but to finally come clean with their secrets
"If breaking things and punching people every now and then helps you, I'll be your punching bag and we can get you some stuff to throw off the roof."
Taylor learns to fight her demons and Hunter and the rest of their crew is right there with her.

I really really liked this book thanks to Hunter; if he was any different I'm not sure if I would've like it as much. My Favourite Mistake starts with the main character Taylor making the following statement:
The first time I met Hunter Zaccadelli, I punched him in the face. Granted, he completely and totally deserved it. He also asked for it, in so many ways.
I was initially prepared to give her the benefit of the doubt because we don't know what he did to get that reaction from her but when the scene plays out I was shocked at her behaviour. Taylor has just moved into a new coed dorm at her college along with her friends Renee and Darah and they are waiting for their fourth room mate to arrive. In walks Hunter and Taylor is horrified to discover that she will be sharing her room with a guy. I can kind of understand that reaction but it's not exactly Hunter's fault that he was assigned to their room. (On a side note would a college really place a guy in a room with three girls? I'm not sure I believe that!). Hunter is a good looking guy with tattoos, a guitar and a cocky, flirty attitude so Taylor immediately pegs him as a douche without even spending five minutes getting to know him. He makes the terrible mistake of flirting with her and stepping into her personal space but does Taylor react like a normal person and ask him to back off? No she punches him in the face (hard enough to leave a bruise) and knees him in the nuts before storming out of the apartment. Her friends don't seem particularly surprised by her reaction which just confused me - if one of my friends acted like that I'd want to know what the hell was wrong with them! The only person who questions her behaviour is her sister and this is the conversation they have about it:
"Aw, Kid, why did you do that?"
"He cornered me, what was I supposed to do?" My hand was red and starting to turn a lovely purple shade.
"You could have told him to back off. That would have been the logical thing to do."
"You know I'm not a logical person."
Well no Taylor quite obviously isn't a logical person - she's actually a violent head case. From this point onwards Taylor is consistently rude to Hunter, she calls him names, snaps at him and does everything she can to get him out of her life. For his part Hunter is patient with her, he cooks for her, he buys her jewellery, he goes out of his way to make sure she is safe and happy and he continues to banter with her while all this time she continues to call him a douche for absolutely no reason! I can't for the life of me understand what such a nice guy sees in her. There is just nothing likeable about Taylor, even when we eventually find out what she went through in her past it couldn't excuse her current behaviour. I felt bad about what had happened to her and could understand her being wary around men and finding it difficult to trust people but that is still no excuse for her getting violent.
I kept hoping we'd see her get some kind of anger management but she refuses to accept any kind of help and that wasn't the only time she hit Hunter either. She threatens him constantly and the second time she attacks him was when he committed the terrible crime of trying to wrap her in a blanket because she was shivering. Here is part of her attack against him:
"Stop it!" I thrashed, but he wouldn't let go of me. He tried to pick me up, but I was ready for him, landing punches and kicks right and left. His face was blank. Somehow he got me to my feet, and the blanket fell away. It was like I'd unleashed something dark and violent that had been stirring inside me since that night eight years ago.
"Stop it! Stop it! Stop it!" I pounded on his chest. I slapped his face and I kicked him. I kept going until my lungs were heaving and my arms were sore and a strangled sob had escaped my mouth.
He stood with his arms at his sides. His face was red from me slapping him.
and this is her sad attempt at an apology:
"I'm still sorry I beat you," I said, touching his perfect face.
"How's my face looking?"
I glanced up. He was going to look quite pretty tomorrow. "A little battered."
"That's okay. I'll just tell everyone I was in a bar fight."
"What, you're ashamed to say you were hit by a girl?"
"No, but I'm worried you'll get hauled in for domestic violence," he said with a smile.
"Okay, fine."
I think that was one of the most disturbing conversations in the whole book. He is making excuses to cover for her and protect her which is classic victim behaviour in domestic violence situations. The fact that she ribs him for being embarrassed to have been hit by a girl rather than worrying about her own actions was just completely disgraceful. She had kicked, punched and slapped him like a mad thing while he just stood there and took it. If that scene was written so that Hunter had been the one attacking Taylor can you imagine the public reaction? People would have been rightly horrified so why is it acceptable for Taylor to be the one doing the attacking? I'll answer that question for you - IT ISN'T!!! There is no way in a million years you'll ever convince me that she is anything other than a violent bully with anger management issues who should be in therapy. I might have been able to forgive her over time if she'd owned up to her problems and taken steps to resolve them but she doesn't and Hunter doesn't help with this either when he says things like this:
"I'm not coping with it, according to my therapists. There have been many."
"Fuck them. If breaking things and punching people every now and then helps you, I'll be your punching bag and we can get you some stuff to throw off the roof. Deal?"
He's offering to be her punching bag if that makes her feel better? No, just NO. That isn't the right way to go about things! He should be offering to help her find a decent therapist or he should be telling her he isn't prepared to put up with the way she treats him and then running a million miles away from her. Taylor's behaviour isn't right, it isn't acceptable and it's only going to get worse if she doesn't deal with her issues. I'm disturbed that this story is considered a romance and that not one of her friends or family members try to put a stop to her actions. I'm also annoyed with Hunter for letting her treat him the way she does, he doesn't just let her get away with it he actually encourages her to carry on.
I think this is the first time I've ever given a book that I actually finished reading 1 star (I usually save that rating for books I didn't finish) but I can't bring myself to give it a 2 star "it was OK" rating because that feels too much like I'm saying domestic violence is OK. I've seen the results of domestic violence first hand and it is NEVER OK.

How could you be proud of punching a person who won't punch you back? Anybody can do that. Punch a guy that will retaliate and THEN you can be proud that you stood on your own (even if you lose a few teeth in the process.)
NOTE TO WOMEN: The only reason you should use violence against a man if if you are defending your person. Hitting a man to settle an argument or because he was "mean to you" does NOT show you as an adult woman but as a little girl who resorts to violence when she cannot get her way.
Hunter wasn't very appealing either. Sometimes he would touch her in the ass when she had clearly told him not to. I also thought it was creepy that he slept naked. If I had to sleep in the same room with a guy I've never met, I would require him sleeping in his boxers at least.
Maybe somebody could like this but this was definitely NOT for me.

I LOVED Hunter! He's not only really funny, he's a tattooed, guitar playing, singing hunk of gorgeousness who is also open and honest, supportive and confident, and not afraid to talk about or show how he feels.
"I can't promise not to make you mad. I can't promise that I won't hurt you. All I can promise is that I want you in my life, and I'll do anything to keep you there."
As they grow closer, things get more complicated, and the sexual tension builds to epic proportions. Hunter clearly has feelings for Taylor (and is not afraid to show it) but, following an incident in her past, Taylor has built walls around herself to protect herself from being hurt. She is terrified of relationships, and men in general, so keeps resisting.
"I make you uncomfortable because I shake up what you thought about people. I make you nervous. You want me, but you don't know why and you can't stop fighting it."
I sputtered for a second, shocked.
"You are so…" My hands shook with anger. I really, really wanted to punch him again.
"I've hit a nerve, I see. Means I'm right."
"You are the cockiest, douchebaggy asshat I've ever met, and I can't wait to get rid of you."
He laughed for the first time. On anyone else, it would have been sexy as well. On him, it just made me more enraged.
"Fuck you, Hunter. Fuck. You."
"You want to, that's part of your problem"
Before I could react, he crossed the room and stood right in front of me.
"Tell me you don't want me. Look me in the eye and tell me if I kissed you right now, you wouldn't kiss me back. Tell me."
And it only gets worse as they try to uncover the secrets that the other is hiding. Both of them are battling with things from their past, and the secrecy starts to impact upon their friendship until it all explodes into a massive outburst which leads to the mother of all apologies from Hunter (seriously, it's pretty epic), and them
finally giving in to the chemistry between them.From then on it's all mega swoony romance, and gorgeous moments as the two of them fall deeply in love and Hunter helps Taylor deal with her issues, heal and finally move forward. It's not all fluff though, there are still dramas that they need to face, and that is where we get to see some significant character development.
There's a great cast of characters - Hunter and Tyler's friends and family - that add so much to the story. And the dialogue is just sensational! There is so much banter and teasing that goes on, it was hilarious! But Chelsea M. Martin was also able to dial it down to deal with the drama, as well as giving us some beautifully romantic scenes. The relationship between Taylor and Hunter is really well written, and very realistic. I could accept what they were both going through, and felt that the pacing of things happening between them was really realistic. The 'big secrets' were both fairly predictable, but I like the way that it all played out, with the two of them providing support to each other, and the resolution that they were both able to find.
I have heard that there will be a follow up book to this, based on one of the side characters. I don't know which it will be, but I can't wait to check back in with these characters, and read more from this author.
Love is simple. You fall and that's it. You'll work the other stuff out. You just gotta let yourself fall and have faith that someone will be there to catch you.

I was truly happy with the ending, it was finished but I could see where she could continue with their story:) I would also love to see additional books with some of the other secondary characters. I would say this is a MUST READ!!!! One for my favs shelf.

So they make a bet: If she can prove to him that either hate him or love him he will go away and leave their house.
But as the time passes they found that between love and hate is a tiny line and with every day they spent more and more together they start becoming unsure in which side of the line they are.
And when Taylor's problems come back to haunt her again, they must learn how to live with the traumas and decide what they will do with themselves.
The story is sweet and is really good to see how they struggle to find a way of dealing with their past and try to look for a future… without ever forgetting the bet. Lord helps if a bet is something to forget!!
After all, as Hunter said, even fucked up people deserve a chance to be completely happy! :)

Hunter was just a traumatized guy who despite having a fucked up past (more fucked up than Taylor's if you ask me) treated everyone with compassion and respect. He was just too nice and didn't deserve the way Taylor abused him verbally and physically. Note to the author: just having characters saying that Hunter was an ass didn't make him an ass. He didn't act like one and I don't think a guy making funny, harmless comments about sex makes him a douchebag.
The reversed double standards in this book had me almost pulling my hair out. How is it okay to have the protagonist assault her love interest on several occasions and that be normal? But when Taylor crossed the line with Hunter and he kicked her out of the apartment it was a huge deal? WTF? Chelsea, I think you are taking your feminist views a bit too far. Abuse is abuse regardless of the gender of the one on the receiving end.
Three quarters of the book consisted of Hunter chasing after Taylor and Taylor being a bitch to him. Taylor pretty much threatens Hunter's secret out of him but she can't return the favor and reveal hers. When she finally reveals her secret and has sex with Hunter it was like her character went through a 180 degree change but by that point I had completely lost interest in the story.
I can see some similarities between My Favorite Mistake and Beautiful Disaster but to be completely honest, MFM has nothing on Beautiful Disaster. That was a great book. This one was simply put a lame attempt.
I really liked this one and I am totally in love with Hunter... I loved the way they met each other, I loved the hate-love relationship and I loved their first kiss and their story :)
Guys, if you liked Beautiful Disaster you will like this one (Hunter is more gentleman than Travis by the way... but they both are great).

Now. For me this book starts out down the right track- tenacious heroine- angry, a little bitter, full of sass.... badass hero just waiting to take our heroine off guard and lay down the law- that is where my praise on this topic ends. Soon, our heroine just sounds like an outright BEOTCH. Not a cute, cuddly, run away from feelings because she is scared kind of a thing- B.E.O.T.C.H.
I found myself saying "ooohhh HELL to tha NO!!!... Tell her to kiss your ass!!! Teach her some manners!!!" It didn't matter. Hunter didn't listen to anything I said (Helllooooo?????) He just took it. Literally. A few slaps, a few more hits, a few more attempts at the family jewels. About 100 more "I.Fucking.Hate.You"'s, "Get.away.from.me"'s- this is how much of this went:

So he thinks.... hummmmm... I will constantly sing to her, tell her how much I want to be with her, cook for her and all of her friends, clean up after everybody, buy her jewelry, etc.... buuuuutttt I'm gonna turn the other cheek when she treats me like CAAYYY-RRAAP! He freaking treats her like gold, and she gives NOTHING. Literally NOTHING until like the last 20% of the book, and EVEN THEN, its sketchy and completely unpredictable at best. For me, this sucked the alpha right out of a potentially HAWT alpha hero. He just took her abusive behavior, and did nothing to correct her or at least stand up for himself- it just didn't mesh well with the image that was being set up.
Much of her bitchiness is due to trauma from her early teen years (which I won't go into- it's most of the turmoil they deal with), and Hunter brings his fair share baggage along with him as well. So here they are, two damaged people, just trying to find true lurve, while trying to discover the others secrets. Hunter just seems so functional and NORMAL, NICE, SWEET, CARING and LOVING- his trauma (in my honest opinion) is SO much worse than hers, yet he manages to cope, while she manages to let her past have absolute reign in her life. Even after he breaks down and shares all of his secrets- she still withholds secrets, emotion and everyday kindness you would give out to strangers. Unbelievable.
The ending left something to be desired- and I pretty much docked it a star because of it. I was literally tapping my screen saying "where's the rest of it??... That was the end??... That sucked!" If there is a sequel coming that I am unaware of, I might reconsider adding a star back- but if not, that ending was not what it could or should have been.
The other star I docked was for her just being a pure B. I've never read a book in which the female lead was just SO downright mean. I didn't want to route for her OR for them because of it. It is one thing to be afraid of feelings and try to hide that emotion or avoid, deflect, even throw attitude- it is another to be verbally and/or physically abusive to someone who is trying to love you.
They do finally get it together, which is awesome- but in the back of my mind- I'm thinking that if Hunter were one of MY friends, I would have told him to run FAR, FAR away. If Taylor were one of my friends, I would be telling her to THANK HER FREAKING LUCKY STARS that he wants ANYTHING to do her- because she dang sure doesn't deserve him.
Important notes: The writing was good- storyline was VERY promising- characters developed well enough (just hated the main character, and really never warmed up to her), disappointing ending which fell flat for me.

Hunter makes Nutella French Toast for Taylor and their roommates:
French toast was one of those foods that seemed easy to make, but was crazy easy to screw up. He'd overstuffed the middle with so much Nutella that it oozed out when I cut it with my fork, and dripped down my chin when I bit it. I wiped it off and licked my finger. Hunter was watching me, as if waiting for my reaction.
"It's okay, I guess," I said, cutting up another piece and shoving it in my mouth. He raised his eyebrows and took a bite of his own, chewing slowly.
Sweet Christ it was like I'd died and gone to breakfast heaven. I really hoped he wouldn't use his cooking skills as leverage for sexual favors. For this, I might have to give in.

I am a big fan of college romances. Unfortunately, it's very hard to find a good one.So I was very excited when I found "My Favorite Mistake". New college romance! What can be better? The description reminded me of "Beautiful Disaster". The first thing that rubbed me wrong in "My Favorite Mistake" was unrealistic of heroes living arrangement. According to the story, Taylor lives in a co-ed dorm. And of course she gets a male roommate. I have trouble believing it. I believe that boys and girls can live in the next rooms. But boy and girl sharing one room? No university would ever support this arrangement. This is just a disaster waiting to happen.
But I understand that it was necessary for the plot, so I'll let it go. What I couldn't understand is why Taylor couldn't find a way out of this situation. I can suggest her five different solutions that would helped her get rid of Hunter in no time. She so strongly hated this living arrangement, but when girls next door several time offered to switch places with Taylor, she declined.
And now we got to the main reason why this book didn't work for me. Taylor. She annoyed me all book long! She has anger management issues. She punched Hunter the first time they met. Then further into the story she beat him senseless when she was having a breakdown. Throughout the book she also threatened to hit his boy-parts. She was yelling at everyone if something was not to her liking. Her roommates were actually scared sometimes to address some issue to her for fear she would explode.
She kept accusing Hunter of breaking into her privacy, while she herself secretly studied his phone, eavesdropped on his meetings, and was demanding to open his secret to her. I understand she suffered childhood trauma, but girl
Taylor also several times accused Hunter of being bipolar, while it was her behavior that was contradictory. At first, she kisses him with gusto before class, later she doesn't let him to kiss her in class because she doesn't want to look like a slut. She chatted with a friend about her night with Hunter, with giving her a few details about their night, later she speaks with her other friend and dodge questions because she "didn't want to share this special moment with anyone".
All in all Taylor was very unpleasant and didn't deserve Hunter.
The good thing was that when they actually got together their romance was sweet. I also liked that characters really went to classes and studied. The writing style was tolerable but nothing special.
I would have enjoyed this book more if there were adequate heroine, but even then it probably would be a mediocre read.

I'd have bought it with half that drama cut out of the story, but again my issue of drama. drama. drama surfaced in this one.
Bottom line? I didn't really care for this. Oh "New Adult Contemporary Romance," there's nothing "adult" about you... and if all you have is stuff like MY FAVORITE MISTAKE and other stuff like this that I've read so far then should am I just looking forward to more whiny face-this and mopey thought-that, people who talk a good game filled to the brim with angsty me, myself and I moments, and yes, more often than not "edgy" cuss filled (sometimes unnecessarily so) lingo, and too little sense to go around?

I thoroughly enjoyed this emotional new adult book, it managed to not only live up to but surpass my expectations. The concept of the story was simple but the content was anything but.
Both lead characters back-stories are what make them such awesome characters. The dialog between them is both amusing & sweet. I could "feel" the emotions between them, the love felt so real. "More than the stars" *sign* sometimes it made me so emotionally gooey - like marshmallow fluff.
I was so pleased with how everything worked out & the ending was awesome.
I would recommend this book & I would read more by this author.

1. So, let me get this straight. A hot guy shows up, SHOWS you the papers where they moved him into your apartment and you still have to be a bitch and tell him he can't stay there..
2. Punching him. That was the most ridiculous thing I've ever read. Violence is the answer when a guy is just trying to flirt harmlessly. *sarcasm* Then him saying he deserved it. No one, man or female, deserves the shit she put him through. She is the
worst character I've ever read about.. EVER. She basically beat him after she got a phone call. She cussed him after her sister call her. I mean really, is that necessary?4. She says she hates him. Then swear to all that is holy, in half a page she is in love and after they do the dirty its all mushy talk.. wtf. Did I just miss 10 pages of them getting along?!?!
5. It went from "I hate you" *COLD* to "I love you" *HOT*. Where is the cool-lukewarm-warm stages before it switches that fast. I like reading a book where love developes. How the hell Hunter fell in love with her, well don't ask me.
6. I really had a problem with how she thought her problems were worse than his. If I knew a person like her I'd have to shake her and say "a guy TRIED (didn't succeed) to do bad things to you, that boy (aka Hunter) seen his problem with his parents. Actually seen it! You're still alive and so are your parents.. WTF is wrong with you?!?" AGH!
I just had so many problems with this book. I think this is the first negative thing I've ever wrote about a book. Mostly because I'm an easy person to please. I just think the author tried to make her a little too strong and a little too psycho for my liking.

Just loved how strong Taylor was. How she 'defended' herself in the beginning, and as Hunter said:
"nothing is sexier than a woman who can take care of herself. As far as I'm concerned, the 1950s are over."
It's so relieving to read about female characters that are strong and steps up for themselves. And even better is to read about male characters that recognize that strength and are not a chauvinist idiot.
There were so parts that annoyed me like when Taylor was trying to find out what Hunter's secrets were about but when he tried to do the same thing, her walls went back up with full force. This is a two-way street. Trust must be earned.

Anyway, I really liked this one. I enjoyed reading it a lot and recommend it to anyone who likes a cute romance with a dark secret looming in the background.
